About ECDS

The International Institute for Primary Health Care-Ethiopia (IPHC-E) and its partners have established the Ethiopian Central Discovery System (ECDS), a central content discovery platform designed to facilitate knowledge exchange and enhance its utility throughout Ethiopia. This collaborative knowledge management system aggregates resources from libraries and knowledge centers associated with ECDS partner organizations, which include leading universities, as well as governmental and non-governmental health organizations. The platform aims to promote the discovery and accessibility of valuable resources for academics, researchers, policymakers, health professionals, and the general public, all within an intuitive and user-friendly interface.

The objectives of the ECDS are:

  • To provide state-of-the-art search and navigation capabilities from a single location
  • To empower users by offering an expanded source of knowledge and information on Ethiopia, consolidating publications from local academic and health institutions along with content from external sources to which they subscribe
  • To promote knowledge produced by Ethiopians by identifying and indexing content for easy searching, referencing and usage at both local and global levels
  • To serve as a foundational resource for developing databases of Ethiopian local content and knowledge for long-term archival purposes.

This collaborative initiative is supported by grants from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation/American Alliance for International Health, and the platform is hosted by IPHC-E.
